Last night we launched the crowdfunding campaign for the Coworking Handbook and we have already passed the 75% of our first goal :) With this money we will be doing the professional proofreading of the book in English.  We have set up a few stretch goals to be able to translate it and edit in in different management. Check the perks and support us.

Discounted Coworking Handbook Offer

We have set up a special price for the duration of the Coworking Europe Conference. If you buy it after tomorrow it will be more expensive.

Help us

We need your help to spread the word and reach as many people as possible. We want to be able to help the most coworking space managers possible in their locations and languages. Here’s a list of things that you can do to help us throughout the campaign:

  • Buy the book
  • Promote this campaign among your friends and followers. Social Media are awesome, but if you can send emails or talk to the people even better.
  • Retweet, share, and like our updates on Facebook and Twitter.
  • Talk to journalists and online influencers about the Coworking Handbook and try to convince them to write about the campaign and the book.
  • Talk to your school directors and teachers and local authorities to try to get them to buy loads of books.
  • Talk to a publisher or media outlet that may want to print and distribute the book in your city/country.

Bobby Bowden relaxing with Charlie Ward's Heisman trophy: Doak Campbell Stadium, Tallahassee

You may be wondering why we’ve been so quiet this last few days after last week’s sprint. Well, we are taking a break from writing, we have two coworking spaces to run!

Last week we managed to get most of the first draft of our coworking how-to guide and a couple chapters have gonne out to our subscribers. Feedback is coming and we are also hooked on thinking how to improve what we have already written.

What’s coming next? We are finishing up what is missing next week and work on the feedback and redrafting. We will continue to release materials by email and through our website.  Bits of wisdom continue to be shared through our Facebook and Twitter, from us and from some of the many interesting people that are running coworking spaces around the world.

If you want to get the next early releases subscribe to our mailing list.

cowodoodlesvisa-870x400
Last week we published the mega-list of coworking advantages. Now it is the turn of the disadvantages. We have included some of the possible answers you can use.

  • I work better from home
    • Maybe coworking is not for you, but do you think that coming once a week could be beneficial to you?
    • How many contacts do you make at home?

[Tweet “How many contacts do you make at home? #coworking”]

  • Noisy
    • Just like any other office
    • You can concentrate better if you use headphones
    • You can isolate yourself in a meeting room
    • Some spaces use white noise to reduce distractions
    • Some spaces have quiet rooms, more like a library

[Tweet “Too much noise in your #coworking space? Here are the solutions”]

  • Too quiet
    • It may be just that you are over worried about making noise
    • Move to another room
    • Talk with the managers and see if they can have a regular office like room
    • Get away from the noisier people

[Tweet “Is your #coworking space too quiet for you? There’s an easy solution for it”]

  • Distractions
    • Put on your headphones to reduce interaction from other people
    • Isolate yourself in a meeting room
    • Educate your coworkers into how and when to interact with you

[Tweet “Learn how improve your concentration in a #coworking space”]

  • Privacy and confidentiality
    • You only share what you want to share
    • Get a desk with your back to the wall and in a corner
    • Use a locker for your sensitive documents
    • Isolate yourself in a meeting room to make sensitive calls
    • Reduce the volume of your voice when talking on the phone
    • The other coworkers came to work, not to listen to you

[Tweet “How to improve privacy and confidentiality in a #coworking space”]

  • I don’t want to share my project
    • You don’t have to
  • Some people are too intense
    • Get away from them, you may even be able to move to another room
    • Tell them to leave more space for you
  • You have to pay
    • You get a lot of value for little money
    • Thera are a lot of advantages of coworking
    • If you only care about money and not about value you are not ready to cowork
  • You have to commute
    • Find a space that is close to you and that you like
  • You have to shower and brush your teeth
    • If you are filthy, nobody will want to be around you
    • It will improve your self confidence and the image you project about yourself
